'Jordan Matson, an American veteran, said the brave Britons fighting for Kurdish forces in Syria "feel connected" to the area because "Britain always had links here".
The 45 or so Brits in the People's Protection Units (YPG) include Harry, a 28-year-old former City trader, described by Matson as a "stand-up guy".
But he said actor Michael Enright, best known for his role in Pirates of the Caribbean, was "not fit for combat".
He said: "The problem is the YPG doesn't kick anyone out, but there are guys there who want to kill him."
Enright has no military experience but joined the fight against the terror group after the beheading of American journalist James Foley last summer.
Earlier this month he was brandishing a machine gun in a YPG propaganda video.
Matson travelled to Syria in September and has become the de-facto leader of the 'Lions of Rojava', the YPG's international brigade.'

That there's some corner of a foreign field
That is for ever England. There shall be
In that earth a richer dust concealed;
A dust whom England bore, shaped, made aware,
Gave, once, her flowers to love, her ways to roam,
A body of England's, breathing English air,
Washed by the rivers, blest by suns of home.
