A Kenucky polie officer shot a drunk man dead after the man attacked the officer with a flagpole.
A Kentucky police officer shot and killed a man who attacked him with a flagpole.
The local police chief said his officer was justified in using deadly force against the attacker.
NBC News reported:
A police officer who killed a flagpole-wielding man in Louisville, Kentucky, appeared justified in using deadly force, Louisville Metro Police Chief Steve Conrad said Sunday.
“The officer believed his life was being threatened,” Conrad said at a news conference, adding that the shooting which was captured in dramatic surveillance video at a nearby grocery store was still being investigated and that the officer, 10-year veteran patrol Officer Nathan Blanford, wasn’t treated for any injuries and hadn’t yet been interviewed by investigators.
Blanford was dispatched to the Old Louisville neighborhood about 2 p.m. ET after a 911 caller reported witnessing an assault. A man was seen grabbing and throwing a woman’s purse and cellphone on the street, Conrad said. Then, the man punched her.
In the surveillance video, Blanford is seen pulling up at an intersection next to a man walking on the sidewalk. Blanford slowly approaches the man, whom police refused to identify Sunday night. After what appears to be a brief argument, the man quickly walks away from the officer and out of view of the security camera.
UPDATE:
Behold! The leftist narrative emerging on Twitter:
The guy emigrated from Africa several years ago, so he might be good at chucking spears.
“Why can’t the police just crack belligerent, violent drunks in the head like they used to?”
Ah yes, the good ol’e “wood shampoo”....those were the days.
There was a time that no wimp too frail to grab a biting medium sized dog and shake it off of them could even make it through the first part of a police academy. Wusses like that couldn’t get hired as meter readers either.
Now we get stories of officers shooting little weiner dogs on the other side of a fence if they bark aggressively.
So here we are with beer bellied tubs of lard dressed for a military assault who are too effeminate in their carriage to have been working an entry level job for the power company in 1965.
The cop's life was in danger and he had retreated to a position that left him no choice. It was a justified shoot, no matter the race of the perp.
If it had been a member of the KKK with one of their flag poles, the media would have given the cop a medal.
And for the love of all that's decent, if you're gonna do drugs, do them at home. Driving around with drugs in your car is stupid.
Absolutely correct. Now you have 5 ft. nothing women and people expect them to handle a gentle giant. Ya gets whats ya pays for.
I bet he doesn’t do that anymore.
Is that a taser?
Anyway, in the video for this shooting, they discuss why a taser is iffy.
Yep. She certainly had something in her hand.
The fall could have caused an earthquake.
This is exactly the reason. Standards had to be changed to accommodate female officers lack of strength, thereby lowering the criteria for a justifiable shoot. Plus, it would look very bad if male officers had less shoots than female officers, or if female cops got assaulted and/or killed more than male cops, so everybody gets free reign to shoot. It makes the women cops feel more empowered. Which is the important thing here. And, the male cops get to shoot more people. So it's a win/win for the police across the country. :/
Yeah...I thought that was odd when I watched the video. This cop had 50-60 pounds on this skinny drunk who had both hands occupied. Simply deflect the first blow, disarm him and take him down and cuff him. If it were me and the same person went after me, I would not automatically pull out my pistol and wait for the first blow. That can only end one way.
Mace and stun guns are used to subdue perps who are resisting arrest. When you are being attacked with deadly force you respond with deadly force.
It’s so easy to be an armchair policeman when your life isn’t in danger. None of us can say how we’d really react if someone was coming at us with a pole to attack us. I’d darn sure not try to disarm the person -
That works for me.
I have no problems with what the policeman did.
It is also easy to react in a non-lethal way that still subdues the suspect...IF you have received the proper training and continually keep those skills updated. Police officers used to be trained that way. But apparently no more. You can read the results of that short sightedness daily in any newspaper.
They should ban this dangerous drug.
Wrestling with the person would have put the officer at risk of the man taking the officer’s weapon. Also, the officer didn’t know if the man was just drunk or on drugs (bath salts, crack, meth, etc.). The officer would have put his life on the line to wrestle with him. I don’t blame him for not doing that.
