PFLUGERVILLE, Texas (AP/KXAN) — Gov. Greg Abbott stopped at a gun range to sign into law bills letting Texans carry concealed handguns on college campuses and openly carry them virtually everywhere else.

Abbott was at Red’s Indoor Range in Pflugerville Saturday morning. He says the laws mean Texans can be sure their Second Amendment rights will be stronger and more secure than ever before.

The Republican made expanding gun rights a top priority of his first legislative session as governor

"The problem of an exposed concealed weapon was resolved several years ago. "

CORRECTION: The problem of an inadvertently or accidentally exposed (or "printed-thru") concealed weapon was resolved several years ago.

Since I prefer to hang my suit jacket or sport coat in the back of my vehicle when I drive, I'm technically at risk when I step to the rear of my vehicle to recover my jacket when I reach my destination. That now ends January 1.

"Don’t think open carry is a very good idea."

Agreed. For tactical and social reasons, I prefer conceament.

But, just today I got a glimpse of the benefit of open carry.

We stopped by Wal*Mart after church, and when we returned to our car, there was a young, Hispanic guy standing near it, shouting in Spanish to some others, a couple of rows away.

But, when I stepped to the back door of the car to hang my jacket inside, he glimpsed my sidearm.

Immediately, his voice level dropped several decibels, he switched to English, smiled, stepped back away from our car, and said, "Good afternoon, Sir!"...

~~~~~~~~~
I guess that supports the old saying, "An armed society is a polite society"...
"...in TX that means taking a class and demonstating you can operate the weapon."
...and point the muzzle downrange and punch holes in paper... '-)
