This is a bad vote, an appallingly bad vote. There is no reason to hide the simple truth (about anything) from the American people. It's not like the labels contain personal opinions, or anything like that.

As a side note, I certainly expect this sort of thing to spread. Eventually (and maybe sooner than later), country-of-origin info will disappear altogether.

Then you won't know if your soup crackers were made in an inspected US plant or in a filthy Chinese back alley.

But, hey, it will improve the bottom lines of the manufacturers. And the politicians will get their campaign “contributions” (bribes). So it's all good.

And you will also know if animal feces was used in places like Mexico to fertilize your vegetables without taking to time to turn it into usable safe compost - putting you in danger of e coli which is not merely a superficial contamination which can be simply washed off - but a contamination that has grown up into the vegetable itself.
