But a big expensive construction project brings numerous opportunities for politicians and their cronies to steal money with little chance of getting caught. What’s more important?

Can’t have a pipeline go across this country but we can have a limited use rail line that benefits certain connected corporate interests.

Obama is behind it and the central hub for the nation is in Chicago. Surprise Surprise.

You can bet that the route will be carefully designed to avoid affecting the neighborhoods of the rich and famous.

The “aw shucks” population of Action hides more than a few rich and famous people.
In fact, just about everybody up there is hiding.
But you are right — Nobody dared suggest the rail go straight down the coast. Which would make just as much (or little) sense.
Destroy Santa Barbara and Malibu? Not even to be thought about.

My uncle is just east of there near Llano. Not rich, but well known in the Big Game Rifle business.
Moved out of LA to the desert after the Watts riots to get away from the filth. What most folks would call a hermit.

Isobel needs to get hold of an 'endangered species' and let it run around her property. Like a turtle. They are an endangered species.
Find one, then call the Audobon Society.

“There were complaints about potential harm to groundwater and home values, hints of lawsuits to come and indignation that the government wasn’t listening to the people it serves” Check the meanings of the word “serve” & you’ll find there are a few & one of them applies in this case. Look it up & make your own decisions as to which one it is.
