It’s an old joke from the Seventies. Some big-name actor that was the focus of an anti-smoking campaign. He would say “I quit smoking!” And then he got busted for smoking marijuana, which was a much bigger deal back then than today. So people made fun of him by saying “I quit smoking! (Cigarettes, that is.)”
