Stakes Are High as Supreme Court Nears Obamacare Decision
St. Louis Today ^ | June 7, 2015 | Jordan Shapiro

Posted on 06/07/2015 3:58:35 PM PDT by SteveH

Before the month ends, the U.S. Supreme Court will decide whether millions of Americans will be able to keep government subsidies used to purchase health insurance. It’s unclear how the court will rule, but the high-stakes case has already ignited a flurry of doomsday predictions and political posturing in the event the subsidies are struck down.

Republicans, who control Congress, have put forward a few proposals that would protect the subsidies in some form but only by repealing major tenets of the Affordable Care Act, President Barack Obama’s signature health law. But some health experts and advocacy groups say these proposals would do little to limit the fallout if the subsidies are struck down. They also don’t like the idea of making significant changes to Obama’s law.

They have already decided - they are just writing it up now. In the past it has been alleged that Justice Sonia Sotomayor leaks decisions to the President. Starting last week, the President went on an offensive describing the chaos which would ensue if the ruling goes against them. I therefore conclude that the ruling has gone against them and they are trying to apply pressure for a last minute change (they believe this worked in the original Obama Care ruling with Judge Roberts).

Pray that the justices hold their ground!!

Tomorrow could be the day, but it’s more likely to be another Monday later in June.

I just hope the hand-wringers and ‘RAT-lites among the Congressional Republican don’t come out of the closet and try to rescue Obamacare from this potential wound.

Of course, it’s always possible that the Supremes will say “black is white” and the law doesn’t mean what it CLEARLY says.

Holder walked right up the middle of the steps to the building to go see Roberts prior to the original ‘decision.’

Yes, a fine if scary post. I think this a valid assessment. Those judges know who pays them. I think they’ll also uphold gay marriage by a 6-3 vote. “Conservative” judges seem to crave those New York Times and Washington Post editorials that praise “how they’ve grown.” Some conservative will cave and he’ll actually have nocturnal emissions over those editorials.

Do not expect much from SCOTUS

They in the political status-quo business, not promoting plain interpretations of the Constitutions, and certainly not in the business of limiting government in any way.

I’m sure the gay rights decision has also been reached - just writing it up. I hear no noise from the White House crowing about this, so perhaps it, too, has gone down (at least for now). For me, this is even more important the the health care ruling.

Meh. They'll puss out as usual. Roberts will vote with the tyrants if need be.

There’s a world of difference between a “health care expert” and an actual doctor.

How can you say such a thing, after such brilliant decisions as Roe v. Wade, Korematsu, Kelo, to name just a few?

Off, OFF Damned Sarcasm!!!

I’m betting Roberts votes with majority - on the left. He’s not going to be portrayed as the “activist” Justice who sentenced millions of Americans to lives of pain and financial ruin. He failed us the first time through by finding a way to agree with the politics. He’s a political guy.

The Supremes will probably rule for Halbig, but the GOP will provide a grace period to transition off the subsidies.
