The robbery and shooting took place at 10:30 PM on Friday night just as the couple was leaving the Shell's restaurant at 2101 East Fowler Avenue. From Tampa Bay, Florida (CBS-TV Channel 10 News):

". . . According to Tampa Police Department, the two suspects approached the victims with a gun drawn while the victims were leaving the Shells restaurant. The suspects then robbed the man and woman. As the woman turned to run, the suspect aimed his gun in her direction.

"The other victim, who had a Concealed Carry permit, drew his weapon and shot the suspect in the leg. The other suspect escaped unharmed but later surrendered to police.

"The female victim suffered some minor injuries as the result of falling on the ground. The other victim was unharmed. . . ."

If te one guy was attempting to shoot the girl, then I’m thinking a leg shot is a bit short of what was necessary.

Maybe it's not the guys leg he was aiming at.

Couldn’t agree more. My lawyer once told me if I ever shoot someone in self defence, make sure it is a lethal shot and as few shots as possible. You can get sued by the victims family, but you have a better chance of winning the case if the victim is not alive to give testimony.

A reminder that NO politician can take away our right, as citizens of the United States of America to protect ourselves.

Gun grabbers, I suggest Canada or Mexico.

I only say “victim” because the police and courts always refer to the person that was shot as the “victim”

Needs more time at the range! Should have used a bigger caliber!

If this had happened in England, his only legal recourse would have been his trusty rape whistle.

He should have shot him in center mass.

"Needs more time at the range! Should have used a bigger caliber!"

Larger caliber in a smaller frame is not the most accurate in the world, especially for follow up shots. Larger frames aren't the best for concealability and comfort in an EDC weapon. I think the more range time idea is the key. In any event he took care of things and he and his date walked away - that's still a win.

"Center of mass" usually means center of torso. True center of mass is a couple of inches below the belly button. For greater clarity, prison guards were told to "shoot for their belt buckle."

I know the area well..it’s not too far from the USF campus. Fowler’s a main commercial avenue, and fairly safe during the day, but the bad element that live nearby..off the main drag.. comes out at night...

An armed robbery went awry outside a north Tampa restaurant Friday night when a victim shot a suspect in a leg, police said.

It didn't go awry, it went better than planned.

They need to label the groin area as the “Center of Darwin Award.”

Supposedly and logically, digestive fluids being what they are, being gut shot is a really bad way to die. Belt buckle it is.

A reminder that NO politician can take away our right, as citizens of the United States of America to protect ourselves.

But hey sure can put us in jail for exercising that right without state permission. Even though any permit or registration requirement is an infringement upon that right.
