I think in fairness that Sen. Joe McCarthy did give it the... college try to put a brake on these traitors; however, Ike opposed him because some of the investigations embarrassed him. Sen. Joseph Raymond McCarthy also got an epithet named after him, courtesy of the Communist "Daily Worker"; i.e., McCarthyism.
