This week, an angry D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier had this to say at the Southeast Washington bus stop where 27-year-old reporter Charnice Milton was shot and killed: “Unfortunately . . . wrong place, wrong time.”
I say to Lanier, with all due respect: No, no, a thousand times, no.

Milton’s death has been received, understandably, with shock and sorrow. It should also have been received with outrage. That the bullet that struck her came not out of a cop’s gun but from a dirt biker’s weapon doesn’t — or shouldn’t — make her killing any less enraging.
You can count on hearing a lot of rhetoric if an unarmed African American is killed by a police officer, especially if the cop is white.
However, should both the victim and the killer be black, and neither of them a police officer, then the expression most likely to be heard among the onlookers at the crime scene is a sigh and the plaintive “These senseless killings have got to stop.”

In DC and Baltimore (and probably many other cities), gangbangers have discovered that a dirt bike is more maneuverable in dense urban housing than cars, and much faster than cops on foot or patrol cars. Essentially, they can motor right by the cop cars and not get caught.
The video on the news showed that one yute even had a small ATV.
Thanks for the “cultural update”. Yes, I seen to remember several “action movies” set in South America where the assassins used dirt bikes.
I had not seen the news videos.
