Liberal Students Are Terrifying Their Own Professors
The Daily Caller ^ | June 3, 2015 | Blake Neff

Posted on 06/04/2015 6:01:48 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

Modern progressive college students have become so militant they’re frightening their own like-minded professors, according to an account posted by one such professor on the website Vox.

The professor, using the pseudonym Edward Schlosser, claims to have taught for nine years and currently works at a midsize state college. Over that time, he says, students have decisively shifted to become so protective of their fragile emotions that defying their sensibilities can be “suicidal” for one’s career.

“Things have changed since I started teaching,” Schlosser writes. “The vibe is different. I wish there were a less blunt way to put this, but my students sometimes scare me — particularly the liberal ones.”

In the past, Schlosser says, he had a limited ability to confess his own political leanings in a class discussion, and he had no worries about exposing students to challenging texts and ideas if he thought it was appropriate for the class. Today, however, the danger is very real, especially for professors who haven’t received tenure yet......

No pity for the guy from me.. I returned to college as an adult (40s) to get a degree and did well.. straight As, Dean’s list.. When a lib History teacher ranted at the class about Nixon getting us in the Vietnam war, I mentioned America’s earlier entry, with Kennedy and Johnson, saying we actually left Vietnam under Nixon when the war was defunded. Boom! There went my Straight As. The best that teacher would give me after that was a C. Like bureaucrats and judges, they are little tenured tyrants.

I work at a university. A more spoiled, stupid, immature and over indulged bunch of creeps you have NEVER seen.

As students and by definition, their education is incomplete... however, a great many of them are unteachable.

Yes. I said that.

Even when their education is ‘completed’-a great many of them will STILL be uneducated AND they will not know it.

Spending all that money and walking out of here with NO idea HOW little they have learned is pathetic.

The kids in the hard sciences are absolutely tops. They're very hard working, disciplined, studious, focused and smart.

All the rest are dumb as dirt and proud of it.

The Daily Caller links to VOX from which I quote this frightened educator's soul:
"I am not a world-class teacher by any means, but I am conscientious; I attempt to put teaching ahead of research,..."

Fear just might be the result of prioritizing "teaching" before the actual research.

Picked up by the Washington Exmaniner:

We're in the midst of a college revolution --- and liberals are leading it

" For years, conservatives have railed against the suppression of free speech and increasing authoritarianism on college campuses — and they've been largely written off by the liberal establishment in academia.

But now, the culture that has been cultivated by liberal ideologues has turned against them, and they're fighting back.

The latest example comes from professor Edward Schlosser (a pseudonym), who wrote an article titled: "I'm a liberal professor, and my liberal students terrify me."

"The student-teacher dynamic has been re-envisioned along a line that's simultaneously consumerist and hyper-protective, giving each and every student the ability to claim Grievous Harm in nearly any circumstance, after any affront, and a teacher's formal ability to respond to these claims is limited at best," Schlosser wrote.

Schlosser's decision to come forward (at least anonymously) comes after Northwestern University professor Laura Kipnis was accused of violating a federal discrimination law for writing about the sensitivities of today's college students. Kipnis wrote about the process in which she was investigated, and was cleared of wrongdoing shortly thereafter.

Schlosser's fear and Kipnis' reality come at a time when colleges are swimming in "trigger warnings" and "safe spaces," which have become necessary to protect students so sensitive that they can't bear to have their worldview challenged or face anything that might remind them of some difficult past experience. It is no longer the responsibility of the student to get herself help for trauma so severe she can't read classic literature; no, the current culture puts the onus on everyone else to tiptoe around for fear that someone, somewhere will be offended.

He also links to other liberal professors, including University of Warwick political philosopher Rebecca Reilly Cooper. Cooper argued that "particular experiences can never legitimately speak for any one other than ourselves, and personal narrative and testimony are elevated to such a degree that there can be no objective standpoint from which to examine their veracity."............................."

It seems even the liberal “educators” are seeing the truth about the “Cultural Studies” professors who have no culture and “Social Justice” warriors who have no concept of true justice.

I love it when the liberals start to eat their own.

18 and 19 year old adults won:

WWI
WWII
The Korean war
Vietnam (the soviet union no longer exists)

The current crop of adults acting as children are an embarrassment and should be told to shut up and go study.

They created the monster that now threatens their own jobs. They made it so that hurting ones “feelings” is the same as physical assault - at least in terms of punishment from the school.

They made their bed...now they don’t want to sleep in it.

What needs to be pointed out is that “Schlosser” starts the article with a story about how he used authoritarian methods to stiffile the opinion of a student who dared to raiseFannie and Freddie’s role in the economic crisis.

He never apologizes for doing that. He never acknowleges that it was just as wrong as what his newer and decidedly more Progressive students are now doing to him and his peers.

He’s utterly incapable of seeing, let alone acknowleging, his own culpability in this mess.

We need to get all the progressive-liberal-socialist-communist-Marxist students on the UN Agenda 21 bandwagon, calling for the reduction of Earth’s population by about 85%. Maybe they’ll set the example by killing themselves first! < /sarc >

‘it affects liberal, socially conscious teachers more the conservative ones’

Yeah, right. Conservatives have been derided for DECADES for not knuckling under to Leftist thought. This crying Lib has been part of the milieu that stopped teaching critical thinking and replaced it with Leftist indoctrination. I remember, in the 80's or early 90’s, the U of Colorado in Boulder took a survey of the political leanings of 200 teachers/professors. 198 identified themselves as Democrats and 2 as Republicans. The catch was that one of the ‘Republicans’ was actually joking, as he admitted later. So, 199 to 1, Libs to Conservatives, 25-30 years ago and it has only gotten worse.

It’s based on their view of “who is Man”. They think Man is perfectible, and therefore, inherently, they are now more perfect than those during the Cultural Revolution,

and they’ll “do it right this time”.

H/T to our FRiend Cincinatus' Wife for the post.

I bring this to the attention of the Watchman List for one salient reason:

The Millenials are NOT your friends. They have been fed a steady diet of Socialism since grade school, and it's been reinforced by social and mass media as well as the college campuses. We see an example of the tyranny of the hive mind here.

Bear this in mind, as you observe the demographics of the "spontaneous" protests, the Occutards, and the proximity of gatherings near campuses.

The anti-police forces, as well as the denizens of the urban kraals, will have massive support from Generation Lost.

For thus has the Lord said unto me:
“Go, set a watchman, Let him declare what he sees.”
Isaiah 21:6

Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dorhn had talked rather openly with their supporters about how many people they’d have to kill in order to bring about their utopia.

That's not correct.

The author's story was the equivalent of a thread hijack. The author's lesson was on the effectiveness of writing and presentation in getting one's message out. The student wanted to debate the subject of the message in the video, not the style and effectiveness of the communication medium that was used. The author wanted to redirect the student's focus back onto the lesson.

This was not an attempt to bully the student into changing an opinion.
