Hurricane Blanca already became the earliest second hurricane on record in the eastern Pacific ocean when it reached category 1 status on Tuesday. Now the storm is undergoing a period of rapid intensification over very warm ocean waters, and has the potential to max out at a category 5 over the next couple of days.
Blanca formed fast on the heels of Hurricane Andres, which surged to category 4 status on Sunday. Andres has since weakened to tropical storm-strength, but Blanca is quickly filling its shoes. The hurricane is the second of the season, the second major hurricane of the season, and the earliest second major hurricane on record in the region in the satellite era since 1971.

Talk about a double whammy if it does keep strength and hits Cabo again. Just hope some of that moisture eventually spins its way thru California.
“Hurricane Andres, which surged to category 4 status on Sunday...”
And which now is just a tropical storm and soon to be a tropical depression, even though it is still over open water and moving ESE.
The end is near?
No BAD...PROOF OF GLOBAL WARMING...WE”RE ALL GONNA DIE!
I did not know that————thanks.
.
The forecast for Andre is for it to make a u-turn and head south-east again, so it'll miss SoCal completely. I haven't seen a track prediction yet for Blanca. But yes, perhaps el Nino will bring some of that much needed water up there.
What is the average elevation of the Baja?
Its not the elevation, it is the reality it is mostly desert.
Not alot of effort goes into drainage because of that.
Be careful what you wish for. Just ask Texas and Oklahoma about rain that never seems to end.
NHC has been in charge of the eastern Pacific (east of 140W) for decades. It's nothing new. they (NHC) have responsibility for the east pac and the Atlantic basin. Hawaii has responsibility for stuff 140W to the date line (and their forecasts are terrible...NHC should do all of it).
According to Wiki, few Pacific hurricanes ever cross the IDL. Don’t know what happens to their names if this should happen.
Bruce Jenner isn’t changed, poor fellow — just mutilated.
We’ll take all the rain we can get.
Not I...we’ve had about 30 inches in May alone.
That means the pelagic species will be closer to shore too. Yellowtail in the kelp patties, yahoo! Accessible by kayak, I have some friends in San Diego that will be all fired up about that.
