Ted Cruz: 'Tom Brady was framed'
Yahoo Finance ^ | 06/02/2015 | Colin Campbell

Presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) openly pandered to a Massachusetts audience last weekend by announcing his support for New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady after the so-called Deflategate scandal. Cruz made the bold proclamation to set up a joke about former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the Democratic front-runner.

"Let me start by saying: Tom Brady was framed," Cruz declared. "Now I'm not willing to pander on much, but on that, Tom Brady was framed!"

“A deflated ball is softer, making it much easier to catch and hang on to without a fumble.”

I don’t know that is true. Do we have anything to back that idea up?

Ted Cruz lost some credibility with me with this pronouncement. Either he does not know football or he is pandering blatantly.

I hope you get your sense of humor back soon. In this day and age, it's really important to have one. Cruz was joking.

Yes, the drastic drop in statistical data of fumbles by the team before and after deflated footballs. Look it up. It was all over news during football season.

My wife, who is not at all a dedicated football fan, was actually crying after what the Seahawks did on that last play of superbowl.

Low information voters are the VAST MAJORITY of voters in this country. Ignore them at your own peril.

I agree Tom Brady ihas the record to prove he is a great QB. But there is no doubt he bent the rules to his advantage, in other words cheated.

I may be stupid, but I am part of the vast majority of low information voters, and we win every election. We rule the country. Ignore us at your own peril. You can revel and stew in your superior knowledge of issues and be part of the cadre of losers in elections.

Of course I know he was joking around, but it is never a smart strategy to favor one NFL team, because then you are instantly hated by two dozen other team’s fans. Now if Cruz was favoring his home teams from Texas, that is excusable. But to pander to New England football fans is a serious non-sequitur.

Its pretty clever actually. I haven’t seen Cruz’s name popping up much (dare I drag the media into this?). It’s been non-stop hitlery, jeb and rubio (with walker sprinkled in there for fun). What better way to get his name popping up and then hijack the whole issue and steer it to what Cruz wants to talk about (the guy is pretty good at “setting the tone” once he gets the megaphone).

I don’t think he favored one team. He made a joke for goodness sake.

But there are reasons to believe that he was framed. The league had been in contact with other teams concerning this before the game. They then did NOTHING to prevent this. In fact, against league rules, they left the balls unattended for hours!

“look it up”?

I do remember hearing another quarterback commenting on the issue and he said that it would have made little to no difference.

“I am a lifelong Rams fan with my own special disdain for the Patriots and their ways, and I am willing to look at Cruz’ opening as an ice breaker.”

Get over it. The Pats didn't beat the Rams because they “taped” their walk through. The Pats beat the Rams because Belichick completely out coached Mike Martz. If he had handed the ball off to Marshall Fault more, they would have crushed the Pats. Instead he gets pass happy and the Pats DB's punish the Rams wide receivers. Belichick knows if it goes to overtime he's going to lose, so hey lets Brady throw on the final drive. Brady was magnificent and the Pats won.

One thing is for sure...the method of handling footballs is totally subject to fraud, since teams were allowed to use their own balls and handle them during the game. I hope NFL has wisened up.

For the QB, not a huge difference between a properly inflated and a deflated ball, but for the receiver of throw, it does make a difference. A harder ball can deflect from your hands easier and is harder to grab, than a softer ball. If you have played any sports where catching objects with your hands is involved, you would know this already. I played cricket during my youth, and a well worn ball was certainly easier to catch.

Absolutely. Teams should not be allowed to handle the balls during the game.

I don’t drink much and I never get drunk.

I screwed up. When I first posted to you I hadn’t noticed that your tagline identifies you as a Walker supporter. Your post made you look anti Cruz and/or just plain stupid...because his statement was simply and obviously a damn joke.

I have learned not to knowingly post to a Walker supporter. I can’t stand Walker supporters. So again, on that... I screwed up.

Good grief! Sen Cruz isn’t campaigning any more than any other Congresscritter who has run for an election while still serving his term-—
