BEIJING (Reuters) - A Chinese state-owned newspaper said on Monday that "war is inevitable" between China and the United States over the South China Sea unless Washington stops demanding Beijing halt the building of artificial islands in the disputed waterway.

The Global Times, an influential nationalist tabloid owned by the ruling Communist Party's official newspaper the People's Daily, said in an editorial that China was determined to finish its construction work, calling it the country's "most important bottom line".

Let’s hope the Chicoms chill out till after we throw Obama out. THEN they can start the war so we can help China solve its overpopulation problem.

But probably they’ll start the war ASAP.

When they tried this land grab against Viet Nam, the Vietnamese fought back and lost, but China backed down. They also are getting Japan and Korea mad trying to grab their islands. The poor Philippines is the weakest link, and they figure Obama is a weakling.

However, trade sanctions could wreck their shaky economy, so they won't go to war.

and this is actually about grabbing the natural gas reserves there. Under a previous Philippine president, they almost got an ok to steal these after a large bribe...luckily the press got hold of the story and it was stopped. The president now is a reformer and not bribable, although those around him are.

There is an election in a year or 2 so China will wait and see if the next President here can be persuaded to look the other way.

and check a map...getting control of these island could let them block air and sea lanes to Japan and Korea.

"If they attack before he's gone obama will sue them."

That is of course only after sending a sternly worded letter to the UN, drawing a "red line" in the sea and waiting through an appropriate cooling off period before taking any rash action.

(Rash action as in removing them from "Most Favored Nation" trading status.)

This can’t be true. Not with President Peace Frog in office.

Do you think Obama will draw a red line first?

"Do you think Obama will draw a red line first?"

He may have to use a different color.

“There is an election in a year or 2 so China will wait and see if the next President here can be persuaded to look the other way.”

A little presumptuous, don’t you think? The world will never see a more incompetent paper tiger as Commander in Chief as they do now. And Beijing will forgo this golden opportunity and roll the dice on the next American administration? Why wait for a Cruz administration to awake the sleeping giant?

No, if China is truly planning to throw their newfound regional weight around, it is within the next 18 months.

Obama is a vile and (weak) incompetent creature, bowing and kowtowing before all the evil leaders and governments he himself tacitly admires because he believes just like them and desires that same control over free Americans,

That is to say - ‘weak’ except to a corrupted John Roberts and John Mccain and the Republican leadership, in which case he is a mighty and all knowing warrior to be at once feared and yet admired for his great power granted him from the MSM which they also worship and desire the same approval and attention and fear their disapproval should they at any time question that beast obamas demonic activities,

Thanks to Clinton, if it came to a nuclear exchange with the Chinese, they’d do more to solving over population problem then the other way around. As Mao told Nixon: kill half our population and we’d still have twice as many people as you do now.

FWIW: their privileged upper class is larger than the entire US population.

FWIW: their nukes, being newer, are more likely to work than our well aged nukes.

I think people overestimate the Communists. The Russkies were trying to scare us for years, even with that super tank, yet everything they touch turns to s***.

Never underestimate the incompetence of Communists to do anything. If they thought they could win a war with the U.S., they would have already started it.

If they start hostilities now, it’s because they don’t expect the U.S. to try very hard to win.

I agree Obama is incompetent.

But the Philippine president is fairly competent and fairly honest. All China has to do is wait a year or 2 for the opposition to get back in here in the Philippines, and then bribe them. The left here got the Americans to close their bases, but now the question if the left will be bribed to keep the USA out... who do they hate more? The average Filipino hates the Chinese a lot more than Americans, because so many have relatives in the US.

And trade sanctions, even if they only included the US, Japan and Korea, would destroy the Chinese economy.
