because it shows a very human side of him playing video games with his daughters to counteract the image of the monster that the press is trying to make? I could be wrong

Low info voters, millenials. It is insignificant in the big scheme of things, but to the more dopey in society, it makes him seem hip.

As far as the Left is concerned, conservatives are sub-human, atavistic, culturally stunted and otherwise out of touch with modernity. Cruz here stymies this false caricature. Even on this insignificant matter, he shows that he will not allow the Left to create the narrative.

Also, Sen. Cruz has stated that his priority is to mobilize a youth corps to spearhead his campaign, as he did in Texas.

Demonstrating that he is knowledgeable of the popular youth culture is one more arrow in his quiver, and one less in his media detractor’s.
