The combination of stronger storms and rising seas from a warming planet have the potential to wreak havoc on America's coastlines, President Obama said Thursday during his visit to the National Hurricane Center in Florida.
Obama received the annual briefing on hurricane preparedness from federal science agencies ahead of hurricane season, and stressed the importance of preparing the country's infrastructure for the impacts of climate change.
"The best climate scientists in the world are telling us that extreme weather events like hurricanes are likely to become more powerful," Obama said. "When you combine stronger storms with rising seas, that's a recipe for more devastating floods."
"Climate change didn't cause Hurricane Sandy, but it might have made it stronger," he added, pointing to the 2012 storm that caused more than $68 billion in damage and was tied to 233 deaths on the East Coast.
After the briefing, Obama took to his @POTUS Twitter account to field questions from the public about climate change. In response to a question about dealing with climate change deniers in Congress, Obama said the public should put pressure on them to act. . .

Obviously he didn’t read the Hurrican Center’s hurricane forecast for this summer — fewer than average!
We will not survive the night.
I always knew Øbama was a Weatherman at heart.
Doesn’t matter what reality is,
leftists will just spout their lies as if they were unchallengable truths,
and no one will prominently call them on it.
What a tiresome bore!
Alas, he has accumulated much power, so he gets to hector us as much as he and Michelle want.
He’s said this the last several years hasn’t he. I guess eventually he might be right.
California drought = global warming
Texas flood = global warming
more hurricanes = global warming
fewer hurricanes = global warming
Where Are the Hurricanes? U.S. Goes 9 Years Without a Category 3 Storm
The mellow 2014 Atlantic hurricane season ended Sunday (Nov. 30), marking a record-breaking nine years since a Category 3 hurricane (or stronger) made landfall along U.S. coastlines.
The last was Hurricane Wilma in 2005 (Sandy was not a hurricane when it hit the northeast in 2012). The United States has never recorded a nine-year period without a hurricane touching its shores
Many more have been killed and injured by the hot air spewing from this clueless jackass than by any storm since the nation was founded.
Meteorology is a fairly accurate predictive branch of science. Climatology, OTOH, would be better served by witch doctors.
Obama knows this because Al Gore told him so.
I can see all these Chicken Little alarmists waiting... hoping for a big storm.
You know, just like the very large storms that happen occasionally on Earth since Earth has been Earth.
Then when that perfectly normal big storm hits, after years of relative calmness, they jump up...”See I told you so! We are all going to die if we don’t make purchasing carbon credits mandatory!”
You forgot one...
Islamic Terrorism = global warming
“The combination of stronger storms and rising seas from a warming planet have the potential to wreak havoc on America’s coastlines, President Obama said Thursday during his visit to the National Hurricane Center in Florida.”
There’s that word again.. Potential. The storms can also have the potential to cause unicorns to start pooping skittles.
National Geographic said the same thing after Katrina and Rita. I still have that issue. Still waiting for more big ones! None after ten years of waiting.
Just because he’s a member of the ‘Weather Underground’ doesn’t make him a Meteorologist!
Due to climate change we have gotten the worse leadership in the country’s history, want proof.......... Just look @ the President!
What a relief for those along the Gulf coast! Since Mr. Science made his fearsome hurricane forecast, there will be no hurricanes again this season.
