Who Would Win A Conflict In The South China Sea: The Infographic
Zero Hedge ^ | 05/27/15

Now, with Beijing set to enforce what is effectively a no-fly zone over its new sovereign ‘territory’ we bring you the following graphic from WSJ which shows that when it comes to sheer size, China’s air force and Navy are beyond compare.

China’s promise to beef up its naval capabilities to prevent further “meddling” and “provocative actions” by rivals in the South China Sea is a daunting prospect for most of its neighbors, which already view Beijing’s fast-improving armed forces with trepidation...

As a recent Pentagon review of China’s military modernization drive noted, “China is investing in capabilities designed to defeat adversary power projection and counter third-party—including U.S.—intervention during a crisis or conflict.” In practice, that means hundreds of ballistic and cruise missiles positioned near the coast to deter Japanese or American warships from coming anywhere near Chinese territory. China has a substantial submarine fleet as well, piling on more risk for enemy ships.

Good afternoon.

You people of Japan and the Philippines, you are on your own.

You are correct regarding the 0bama regime.

BUT, the Chicoms have to consider one little thing. If everything goes south in the South China sea, the Japanese could have a deliverable nuclear warhead with the month.

That is something to consider.

remember that China through its military-commercial network supposedly controls both ends of the Panama Canal

No one talks much about this

Thank You Jimmy Carter!

“How long would it take Japan to build and deploy an A-Bomb? A week or two?”

To build one? About 30 minutes. Deploy one? Depends on the platform.

Iow, the chart may be “accurate” but it’s also BS.

My thoughts exactly.

“That is the entire Chinese team vs. our one strike force.

How quickly could we transfer other ships to the area?”

That graphic is definitely not the whole picture, but it does indicate how the balance has been rapidly shifting.

The Chinese Navy is in the midst of buildup akin to something out of WWII - 50 100 ships per year.

They have fielded hypersonic missiles which were specifically designed to defeat our carriers, or keep them out of range. Their goal is to exclude the US and claim control of wide areas through the numbers, without actually having to fight. They will likely be installing missile batteries soon, if they are not there yet.

During the Clinton Administration, they got extensive intelligence on US vulnerabilities, and the specific technologies to attack them. They revised their investment strategies exactly against US weaknesses, and have now fielded a lot of that capability.

Clinton also got them admitted into the World Trade Organization, so that they were able to make the money to fund their massive buildup.

We can expect similar, or probably worse, sellouts of our National interests under a Hillary Administration. The Clintons may have grown rich like Ferdinand Marcos through public corruption (a few billion), but I believe that they want to become rich like Vladimir Putin (tens of billions).

How to deploy an A-Bomb? Simple—use a rocket—Japan has launched things into space, Use a warplane, or a Kamakaze one way jet—I bet it would not be hard to find volunteers if Japan is nuked first.

One suspects he would look at the info graphic and decide the US needs to cut back.

The U.S. never talks submarines or there positions.

Couple of things to look at. We have an Aircraft Carrier and 54 planes. No one knows how many subs. On alert 24/7.

China has 2100 aircraft. How many are combat ready and on alert? Several hundred ships. How many are combat ready and on alert?

Minute we take out a couple of airfields, their 2100 aircraft are useless. Their ships have to leave from somewhere as well as return as well as use logistics to be fed and rearm. We would also destroy that capability in the first hour.

A fight with US and China comes down to one thing. Who’s satellites stay alive.

I think their arrival would be moot if it came to blows, unless they can be “beamed” there, Star Trek style.

The U.S. Strike Group retires and cedes the South China Sea or at least the part within range of the PLAAF to the PLAN, until the USAF repositions and four more carrier Strike Groups arrive, in addition to a MEU or two to take those Chinese held atolls.

The Chinese rule the seas for 14-21 days, and then we begin the roll back, sinking every PLAAN ship that can't make it 200 miles up an inland river and flaming their aircraft out of the skies.

That's our capability. Our will, with Zero at the helm, is another matter.

The South China Sea is about the same distance East or West from our shores. Strike Groups already in the Med or IO would certainly continue East.

Correct. That is why China first developed satellites that are satellite-killers in space.

I’ll add to that somewhat.

The US CSGs are used to provide defensive aircover over the patrol boxes of two Ohio-class SSGNs and a couple/few Los Angeles class SSNs with VLS. Which puts somewhere around 300 Tomahawk missilein range of all sorts of ChiCom infrastructure.

A wing of F-22s from Elmendorf or Holloman deploy to Guam or Japan and using inflight refueling conduct offensive fighter sweeps ... killing anything that the ChiComs put out over water. Making the Great Marianas Turkey Shoot look like a well-contested air battle.

We use B-2s with those neat (if old) CAPTOR mines based on the Mk.82 series to mine the living hell out of the approaches to ChiCom harbors.

I could go on and on here ...

because they aren’t really needed in those theaters, because none of the bad guys there are sympathetic enough to the Chinese to take advantage of a vacuum or create a diversion

and then there’s always the Norks, who would hate to miss a party

Here’s a question for the creators of this silly chart:

How many aircraft carriers does the US have and how many does China have?

Correct answer: We have 20 they barely have 1.

And who decided to leave Taiwan off the list?

Are they allies with China? not the last time I checked and they are heavily armed for this scenario
