Out of curosity, what is the real story on that picture of the the Capitol building smoldering there? Looks to be in the late 1920’s?
This picture of the January 1930 fire at the Capitol Building shows firefighters in Washington DC battling the blaze. The damage was done, and some rooms on the House side were destroyed, namely the above artists studio. The Capitol Building was most famously set aflame in August of 1814, during the War of 1812, by the British in retaliation for similar American actions in Toronto.
