Marion Mitchell Morrison (born Marion Robert Morrison; May 26, 1907 – June 11, 1979), better known by his stage name John Wayne, was an American film actor, director and producer.[1] An Academy Award-winner, Wayne was among the top box office draws for three decades. [2][3] An enduring American icon, he epitomized rugged masculinity and is famous for his demeanor, including his distinctive calm voice, walk, and height. Wayne was born in Winterset, Iowa but his family relocated to the greater Los Angeles area when he was four years old. He found work at local film studios when he lost his football scholarship to USC as a result of a bodysurfing accident

I loved the Duke. My favorite actor as a kid growing up. Sands of Iwo Jima and Flying Leathernecks helped inspire me to be a Marine.

The new large John Wayne Museum just opened with an amazing collection of stuff: One of his custom Pontiacs with raised roof, movie props and costumes, sculptures and artwork, photographs, correspondence, personal items, and a movie theater.

My favorite John Wayne film is Big Jim McClain, in which he plays a detective working for the House of Representatives Committee on Un-American Activities (HUAC) who chases Russian spies through Hawaii. It's hard to imagine a more politically incorrect film. It must have driven the liberals crazy.

Back when Hollywood focused on entertaining and not brain washing. Back when it wasn’t the entertainment wing of the ministry of propaganda. The amusing thing to me is that when Hollywood actually makes a movie in the modern vein of a John Wayne type film it makes huge moola.

Back around ‘06 or so one of the cable oldie channels would show several of his very first horse operas back-to-back early on Sunday mornings. They were great fun to watch, reminded me of the western TV shows of my youth in the late 50’s.

Fort Apache. If only for the scene where Henry Fonda is trying to start a fight with Cochise, against John Wayne’s advice. “Tell him he is a man without honor.”
