Jovano Graves' parents begged him not to join the Army right out of high school in 2003, when U.S. troops were fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan..

But their son refused his parents' pleas to try college. He followed them both into the Army instead.

Last June, 11 years later, Staff Sgt. Jovano Graves returned home from Afghanistan, joining his mother, Chief Warrant Officer 4 Sonia Graves-Rivers, for duty here at Ft. Bragg.

"My family, going way, way back, has always felt so proud to be Americans," said Graves-Rivers, who comes from a family in which military service spans six generations, starting with her great-great-grandfather, Pfc. Marion Peeples, who served in a segregated black unit during World War I.

Her father, Cpl. Harvey Lee Peeples, fought in the Vietnam War. Her uncle, Henry Jones, was career Air Force. Another uncle, Sgt. 1st Class Robert Graves, spent 22 years in the Army. Her sister, Janice, served 24 years....

The military is just about one of the only governmental institutions I still trust.

I don’t even trust law enforcement, too much corruption anymore.

Huh? Are you sure that’s aimed at me? I was in the Army, my father was a career Marine (World War II, Korea and Vietnam) and my grandfather was in World War I. I won’t even go into the Civil War.

That's no surprise. Neither do the local police, teachers, regulators, politicians, government-linked business folks, government pensioners and defense contractor pensioners in my Republican majority County (like Democrat majority counties--all sides socialist and un-American).

In contemporary politics and business, we see the bad and ugly. There's no good, and there are no real conservatives.

But I know that I did something good and that doing good does matter.

I have no respect for the disrespectful regardless of their income brackets or positions. Don't tell me to move. Get out of my country.

I trust the military. I do not trust the post turtle in chief or political hacks willing to “earn” another star by promoting homosexuals/transgenders in the miltary, women in combat/special forces, and designating Republican states as hostile in military training exercises against civilians like Jade Helm 15.

The current leadership is trying to destroy the military from within, hurting morale in the ranks, while creating distrust among civilians.

Actually, lots of people around here have a dislike of the current military. On a recent thread about Jade Helm a bunch compared our current troops to the SS and SA. Convinced the troops have been purged and all are gay or Obamaites. Sickening.
