Why would Assad be opposed to the pipeline? If he was in favour of it, wouldn’t that end the nightmare? And yes, I do find this theory plausible although unproven.
Because he depends on Russia for support. Naturally, the Russians will fight tooth and nail to prevent that pipeline from being built.
