Gen X grew up during the “duck and cover” period? I don’t think so. They stopped teaching that in the 70s if not sooner.

I was born in 1943 and started "kindergarten" at age 4. KG was 2 years, rather like day care, more socialization than academics.
Finished 12th grade in 1961. During those 14 years we were never taught “duck and cover”. Never had tornado drills either. We did have three "surprise" fire drills every year, that was about all the disaster drill we got.

Regards,
GtG

“. During those 14 years we were never taught “duck and cover”. “

I remember in the 50’s practicing ducking under the desk. We even had one drill where we all boarded school busses and went about 10 miles out of town till we got the ‘all clear’ signal.

I suppose it was an EMP vs electronic tech joke, but it was pretty obscure.

That question indicates to me that your original comment was not serious.

Perhaps you grew up near a potential target?

I grew up in a small village (population about 1200). The village was actually a "company town" which wasn't close to much in particular. We were 90 some miles from Milwaukee. Civil Defense was not a high priority issue for our bucolic little backwater.

I found out later that NORAD had ringed Milwaukee with radar pickets and NIKE surface to air batteries. My Father-In-Law was a Lt. Colonel in the USAF reserves and had been posted to several of the missile sites. Years later he told me that most of the NIKE batteries were "hollow" and were mainly there for public relations. The real air defense was much further north, near K.I. Sawyer AFB in the UP.

GtG

Two targets.

Eglin AFB and Tyndall AFB and a Naval Base.

Black was chosen for 2 reasons.

It absorbs radar waves best, and it is a natural color for a flock of birds.

Re: Cartoonish response, lol.

Then no cartoon, I'll be literary as hell, you are a schmuck.

And if you do not know what that means, in American English, 'schmuck' is a pejorative meaning one who is stupid or foolish; or an obnoxious, contemptible or detestable person who make nonsensical statements.

So, how does that tickle your 'lol' bone?

Re: believe you meant “literal.”

Gadzooks, you are really living up to your reputation as a schmuck but I used 'literary' as a response to your retort that my original comment was in your parlance "cartoonish." Since you apparently also do not know the definition of 'literary,' it is "concerning the writing, study or content of literature" as opposed to a visual form, i.e. a cartoon.

Yet you do prove without a doubt, you are a schmuck in the literally sense of the word and its meaning.

Still tickling your 'lol' bone, mate?

Just so you will not have to scratch you head any more, here I am aiming at your lack of intellect but you have proven you have little, if any, of it to use--

BTW those weapons that hurt your sense of fair play so much are protecting your right to be a schmuck. And I'll defend your right to be one, but I do not have to agree with you or like what you say.
