Some years ago I encountered and debated well into the wee hours a young Irish militant of the IRA stripe, no doubt a fugitive hiding in New Zealand who was a blatant communist. It is appalling how raw the communism of Ireland is and it is surprising when one considers the Irish in America who are as a group the backbone of the church, New York's finest, conservatives even when they vote Democrat and, as a race, spawners of presidents.

Irish nationalists found nobody willing to help them; that is also what drove Ho Chi Minh (and many other colonized peoples) to communism. While many came to the US and served it well, they always knew the US and UK were mates; while the US offered opportunity, it was never going to press England to leave Ireland.
