It's been years since I re-read Winds of War/War & Rememberance, but I recall the material took hold of every free moment I could steal away to continue reading. Wouk's wordsmithing takes possession of your imagination. Having finished the books, I felt compelled to own a video copy of the mini-series based on those novels which I keep handy to watch/listen to while organizing/re-organizing closets.

Shopping for a gift at Barnes & Noble a couple of months ago, I was surprised to recognize Wouk's name authoring a an unfamiliar title, "The Law Giver" available in B&N's 'bargain books' section. Reading the jacket cover, I was surprised to learn Wouk's 'bargain book' was released in 2012! I began reading his works when I was a teen in the 70's, at time during which I considered Wouk not only a seasoned and gifted author, but a 'senior citizen'.

Fast forward more than forty years to discover Wouk had a new title released only three years ago and promising more to come - was an enormously delightful surprise. Such joy was tamed by the sad revelation that his wife had recently passed as he wrote "The Law Giver".

I'm ever grateful for the countless hours of entertainment Herman Wouk's works have provided over all those years.

I now imagine the hours I banked towards ambitious plans I prepared for constructing a new expanded garden bed this summer will be impacted greatly with the acquisition of Wouk's latest release. All those starter plants I prepared from seed have roots crowding/choking through their mini peat pots, but will simply have to wait!

Best Wishes for a Very Happy 50th Anniversary of Mr. Wouk's 50th Birthday!

A remarkable writer indeed. I hadn’t known about his more recent works.
