What else did anyone expect from Republicans on any trade deal put before him? Most will support anything called a trade deal. It was Republicans and Slick Willie who put through NAFTA over the opposition of most Democrats in Congress and 60% of the public. Same deal here.
This is all just a bunch of concocted false drama that has nothing to do with reality. These bought and paid for Republicans will carry out the desires of those who bought and paid for them.

“If the bill has to be kept in secret, then the votes should be AGAINST THE BILL !”
So true. Every republican legislator should vote no if they have not read the bill.

SourceSen. Cruz: Congress Must Prohibit Obama From Abusing TPA to Change Immigration Law
CRUZ FILES AMENDMENT TO TRADE PROMOTION AUTHORITY LEGISLATION
WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) today filed an amendment to the Trade Act of 2015 to lock in assurances that this legislation cannot be used to change federal immigration law.
"The Obama Administration has repeatedly assured Members of Congress thatthere is nothing in the Trade Act of 2015 that would allow the President to unilaterally make changes to federal immigration laws.
I agree, and we should put it in writing and make it binding law," said Sen. Cruz.
"I am a strong supporter of free trade, but I cannot support legislation that would allow the President to once again circumvent Congress to enact his own immigration laws.
Since the Obama Administration has emphatically arguedthat TPA will not affect immigration,
it should support this amendment, which makes that promise explicit."
The amendment states thatnothing in the Trade Act of 2015 or in any trade agreement subject to the Act "shall alter or affect any law, regulation, or policy relating to immigration."
The amendment also states thatany fast-track procedures shall not apply to any implementing bill submitted with respect to a trade agreement"that includes any provision that alters or affects any law, regulation, or policy relating to immigration."
The text of the bill is available here.
TRED CRUZ had a gut-ripping amendment to that bill.
So I support TED CRUZ !

"Cruz has been a real disappointment of late." Yupe, from immigration to trade to the Patriot Act a real disappointment. Still one of the best in the Senate, just not up to the standard set by Lee, Sessions or even Paul.

He put up an Amendment he knew would not pass, then voted for cloture, assuring passing of the bill intact.
You're in denial.

Do they realize that this apparently cuts China out of the picture? With a slowing consumer based economy in China, TPTB will likely turn to militarization to unify and strengthen their economy. (Guns and butter theory.)
In addition, wasn’t NAFTA such a great idea? All these agreements do nothing to lift our industries, economy and employment. They act as levelers with us as the losers. We cannot compete with third world wages, lax third world environmental laws and our own laws that increasingly lock up natural resources.

Lol...I keep hearing that. But, does anyone actually expect the business community to not allow China into a agreement later down the road? People are in denial. China will simply join later.

So you are saying only the immigration aspects of this bill are a concern to you? The rest of TPA is not worthy of your consideration? That appears to be your position. BTW I would love to see Cruz as the GOP candidate but I can still see warts.

No, I'm saying "I TRUST TED CRUZ" .All I'm asking after your statement that all Senators who voted yes should be primaried is "Was the immigration aspect of TPA your only concern?" If the rest of the bill is alright why primary anyone? Cruz agrees with the rest of the bill. If you trust him you will trust his statement that he backs TPA and only wants any immigration aspect left out. What is your position?

I think Cruz is “just” keeping his head down now that he is POTUS running. He doesn’t want to play Wack-a-Mole with the LSM too often.

I don't have a problem with making the Senate vote “up” or “down” on trade agreements. It still requires an appropriate number of votes to pass.
This does stop people from modifying with riders the terms.
After this is passed, Senators will simply need to vote down the agreement and reauthor it if they want a new vote. What is not to love about this? It doesn't stop review and if people don't like future bills, they can't negotiate to add something in the dark of night that is then voted on (for which no one else may have fully identified the new insertion).
This is a “win-win.”.
Folks, are you just having a problem with a reduction of wasted time? I can't understand how this is bad.
