That's not assimilating. I would not see that as out of the ordinary for their culture, at all.

The Sikh families I have known are very family centric, and all children are celebrated and protected. I was on a long TDY and my wife was getting all frazzled about taking care of the kids and house, etc. I asked my Sikh friend to look in on her. He brought his parents over. Dad mowed the lawn and fixed a problem with an electrical circuit. Mom cleaned the house and made three days of meals for my wife. Needless to say, my view is a little skewed by the genuine love and caring that they gave to my family.
