I read that ice cores show that changes in CO2 levels *follow* changes in temperatures, not the other way round.
It makes sense, since increased temperature makes CO2 less soluble in water similar to Warming up a beer or a soda makes the CO2 fizz out. Because warmer water holds less dissolved gas, including CO2. Stands to reason that melting ice and warming oceans release CO2.
Yes, CO2 is a lagging indicator of temperature.
Lagging - that means not causal...but caused by.
