Don’t know a great deal about this, but the patent trolls exist and are a big problem, especially BTW for small businesses.
In at least three instances of which I’m aware, trolls have patented processes that have been used for decades in my rather obscure field, then send threatening letters to small businessmen to get them to cough up $500 to $1000 for using them.
Most small businessmen pay them. Bigger companies tell them to pound sand.
Nobody has an incentive to spend tens or hundreds of thousands to get their patents overturned, which is what should happen.
