“Lots of people speak in front of youth conferences. Many youth conferences have lousy speaker.”
I hope there are not a lot of speakers who have had legitimate objections expressed by a Catholic news channel be allowed as speakers at youth conferences. If there are, then frankly something needs to change within the Church.
His appointment will give him access and acceptance to many Catholic organizations. You seem to be accepting of this appointment. Many other Catholics will also be accepting of this appointment. He will have a pulpit to spread his garbage.
There are a number of different sorts of positions on the council. Have you heard of Martin Schlag? He is the only American in an equivalent position. I haven’t heard of him either.
His appointment will add nothing at all to his already having been Master General of the Dominicans. The Master General is easily among the top 300 positions in the Church—probably among the top 100—think of the clout of a former Senator. The current position is probably not among the top 10,000 and may not be among the top 20,000. The only reason it makes the news it that it is among the 6,000-8,000 that the Pope personally appoints. I would think that almost all Diocesan Vicar-Generals have more actual clout and importance. “Former Senator and current adviser to the library board.”
