FERGUSON The memorial to Michael Brown on Canfield Drive has been removed and will replaced by a plaque and a statue, Mayor James Knowles III and Michael Brown Sr. announced Wednesday.
Knowles said the Urban League will store the stuffed animals and other items that have formed the temporary memorial down the center of Canfield Drive since Aug. 9, when Michael Brown was shot and killed there by a Ferguson police officer.
Flanked by newly-elected Ferguson City Council members Wesley Bell and Ella Jones, Knowles and Brown Sr. said the plaque will be part of a new permanent memorial in the area.
In an interview after the news conference, Bell said that the new memorial along Canfield will include the figure of a dove, and that Brown's mother, Lesley McSpadden, had been involved with the planning. The metallic dove and the plaque will be embedded in the sidewalk along Canfield.
Brown's father said the stuffed animals and other items along the road had become a safety hazard.
Wednesday would have been Michael Brown's 19th birthday. His family and community members gathered at the memorial around noon and began removing the items. By 1:15 p.m. or so, the street was clear.

" will include the figure of a dove ..." Why not a raven? White doves are racist.

A place to piss if every I am in Ferguson, which I doubt.
A heartwarming remembrance for violent, drugged-out thugs everywhere.
I'm lighting up a fine cigar to honor his many achievements. And yes, I actually paid for the cigar.
A statue? Is the statue going to show him robbing a store or punching a cop in the face?
How about they take the money they are going to spend on the statue and give it to the guy whose store was robbed and then destroyed during the Obama/Holder fomented riots?
Exactly. Hopefully they’re not using taxpayer’s dollars to pay for it.
“Here lies Big Mike, who strong armed a convenience store and then assaulted a police officer. Big Mike was so determined that he decided to make a second attempt at the officer. The officer followed his training and responded appropriately, which is why ‘Here lies Big Mike’.
plaque?
Quick! Get a toothbrush!
Make it out of solid brass. It will be ripped down and sold as scrap within a week, by one of the looters.
It might take longer than a week, but the metal scrapyard is definitely where it’ll end up. Seems very appropriate to me, given that culture’s penchant for self-destruction.
Certainly more useful, and able to be appreciated by all.
That reminds me. I need to call my dentist and schedule my 6 month teeth cleaning.
I’m not betting on the timeline, but I’m certain it will be an empty hole eventually.
I would think a permanent chalk outline would be more appropriate..
Beside, *they* got away with stealing everything else in the town, how are the powers-that-be going to explain that now is the time to start enforcing the law over stolen crap about a dead thug?
Fine *them* the cost of repairing the sidewalk, and tell the famdamnily and enabling activists, "Well, we tried, but the vox populi had other ideas."
If he had used the sidewalk, he may never have bee stopped in the first place. Oh the irony.
