I’m certain we will have a candidate, but the question is, will they have a chance?
At some point in the next decade, there may be critical mass to elect an Asian Republican here, as CF has inferred, but it may be too early at present. Correa will be the one to beat it looks like.
As I pointed out recently, it will have been 18 years in Nov 2016 since the CA GOP took an open Dem House seat and 22 years since they defeated a Dem incumbent (not counting what I seriously believe has been voter fraud in the past 3 cycles), an absolutely horrible record of failure.
It’s like trying to teach a dog algebra.
The district is more ‘Rat voting than the adjacent state Senate and County Supervisor districts, including all of Santa Ana and western Anaheim. I can think of a few Pubbies who can run, but they’ll be running in a district that voted 60% for Obama.
For what it’s worth, ‘Rat frontrunner Lou Correa clashed with his party’s leadership in the Senate sometimes. When he tried to form a Blue Dog-type caucus, the Senate President moved him into an office the size of a broom closet. He’d be less repulsive than Loretta Sanchez. As far as I can tall, Janet Nguyen would be the best GOP candidate, but she just succeeded Correa in the state Senate a few months ago and doesn’t seem interested.
Whatever clashing occurred in Sacramento is unlikely in DC. There’s virtually zero Dems that aren’t all on the same page, and that’s ultra-ultra left. If Correa wanted to demonstrate real independence, he’d run as a Republican.
In an unrelated matter, state Representative Elizabeth Scott has filed FEC papers to challenge Suzan DelBene for reelection in Washington state. I’ve found no articles, just claim on Politics1. Scott seems to be conservative, so I hope someone can get more information on it.
Based on limited info, she sounds like a strong candidate for that seat.
The poster in this thread, Kenny Bunk, passed away. RIP.
