As the verdict nears in the racially charged case, city officials hope to avoid violence. They've reached out to civic and religious groups for constructive dialogue to help ward off potential unrest.

Correction May 18, 2015
In early versions of this story, we reported that Cleveland City Councilman Kevin Conwell said he would go out "rioting" if police officer Michael Brelo is acquitted in the shooting death of two black suspects. That was incorrect. Conwell said he would be "riding" in his district if the officer is acquitted.
The “city has reached out to civic groups”. I hate that term. Keep reaching db’s. It’s not about the verdict it’s about the “free” toilet paper, flat screens, beer and Slim Jim’s.
“As the verdict nears in the racially charged case, city officials hope to avoid violence. They’ve reached out to civic and religious groups for constructive dialogue to help ward off potential unrest.”
Should read:
They’ve informed civic and religious groups that rioters and looters will be shot on sight.
All members of The Watch are urged to keep eyes on this situation,, especially in light of this being the next site of the RNC Road Show in 2016...

Local religious and civic group outreach isn’t much of a help when the rioters are outsider agitators bussed in to pillage and loot.
Funny how Fergusson got quiet just before Baltimore went up. If Baltimore is suddenly quiet, Cleveland officials should be very, very worried.
I messed up and did not enter the date of the piece. (Maybe should be required?)
NE Ohio pings..!
Sounds like mofree. Mo free stuff that is.

Sounds to me like they are preparing for acquittal. This is also a bench trial, so the judge makes the decision.
Please snag a 52" Flat Screen for me, two cases of a reasonable champagne, a case of a really nice Cabernet, beef tenderloins (in a cooler please), sunglasses, and if you're near West Marine, some snazzy foul weather gear.
Thanks, fellows and I'll have an Uber Driver standing by. I am really sorry these two fellows were shot (they had turned their lives around and they'll be sorely missed at Meals on Wheels, but I do have their Facebook stuff, their Tweets, and some cassettes of their phenomenal rap songs), but hey, through grief and all, a guy's gotta eat ... and sail.
A local talk/sports radio personality made a key observation regarding the potential protests/riots. I’m paraphrasing, but the gist of what he said is:
Remember the 70s when there was streaking at almost every big event? Do you know why there isn’t any streaking today? The media doesn’t cover it.
That's a gutsy move for the defendant. Most defense attorneys consider a bench trial to be nothing more than a long, drawn out guilty plea.
Ogods, you owe me a new screen, keyboard and shirt!!!
No details on shooting at NPR link.
Was the cop acting in self-defense and, therefore, SHOULD be acquitted?

It began with a car chase after Russell, 43, fired a gun at police near Cleveland's downtown Justice Center, prosecutors said. Russell sped off with Williams, 30, in the passenger seat, starting a pursuit that eventually drew more than 100 police officers.
It is unclear why Russell refused to stop. Both driver and passenger had prior convictions and had struggled with mental illness and drug abuse, but neither was known to be violent, according to Joseph Frolik, chief spokesman for McGinty.
In case it comes up in conversation, apparently firing pistols at cops is no longer considered "violent." Oddly enough, it took a year and a half to bring charges against the cop.
Do I hear in the distance, “Burn baby burn?”
