Well, warmer waters do equal more powerful hurricanes. It’s the worm water that fuels them and the warmer the water, the more fuel available. Hurricanes need water temperatures of 80 degrees Fahrenheit to spawn.
But this has been known for DECADES. It’s nothing new and it’s not because of global warming. It’s just part of the mechanism that spawns hurricanes.

Yes, more powerful hurricanes can result in fewer hurricanes...
because....
as the powerful hurricanes pass over the ocean waters, it churns up the water, often bringing cooler water to the top thus cutting off, or drastically reducing, the supply of hurricane fuel.
Nothing new under the sun here either.
