Despite pious rhetoric on the left about "asking" the more fortunate for more money, the government does not "ask" anything. It seizes what it wants by force. If you don't pay up, it can take not only your paycheck, it can seize your bank account, put a lien on your home and/or put you in federal prison. So please don't insult our intelligence by talking piously about "asking."

You cannot take any people, of any color, and exempt them from the requirements of civilization — including work, behavioral standards, ... that the clever intelligentsia disdain — without ruinous consequences to them and to society at large.


That has to be one of my favorite Sowellisms to date.

The top earners provide so much benefit to society, we’d be much better off not taxing them at all — or at least changing tax laws so that all income above $1 million per year is tax free. Think of all the money that would STAY IN THE ECONOMY if we did that. More investment capital.
