Shoppers could soon have a harder time finding out where their red meat comes from.
The World Trade Organization ruled Monday that the U.S. "country of origin" labels put Canadian and Mexican livestock at a disadvantage. The current labels say where the animals were born, raised and slaughtered.
The Obama administration has already revised the labels once to try to comply with previous WTO rulings in favor of Canada and Mexico. Since those efforts didn't work, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack says Congress will have to weigh in to avoid retaliation such as extra tariffs from the two neighbor countries.

I don’t want to buy meat from Nigeria.
They should at least have to label whether it is animal or human.

Regardless. America got some green onions from messyco that killed some restaurant patrons. Seems the messycans like to throw human feces on their food.
Can't imagine what their beef is fed. Green onions?

I sure appreciate the “country of origin” labels, particularly on seafood.
“China” ==> Do Not Purchase.

I’m sure some brands will thrive on the marketability of USA raised beef. The only problem is people using the USA raised beef and lying about it. The FTC will have no impetus to guarantee the labeling because they gave it away in the name of WTO and globalization.

Avoid buying anything that you don’t really need. Save for items that can be used for self-sufficiency.
Frequently, make plans and do work to become more self-sufficient, especially with home energy.
Study and practice to manufacture a necessity as a hobby for now.
Have fun. Enjoy the slide.

Sounds like Vilsack thinks the folks will be happy to buy “mystery meat?” And if vegetables are marked why wouldn’t meat be marked? Canned meat might be one thing but graded fresh meat is a whole nother “animal.” And BTW Vilsack: where the bleep do you get the idea that food of any sort should not display its source? If the Mex/Cans aren’t competing well then maybe they ought to step up their quality?
