The importance of determining the relation between the sexual orientation and suicide rate is to identify the causes of this relationship, and seek a way to eventually lower suicide rates among these groups of adolescents and young adults.

Based on the findings of an Austrian study, if 10% of the overall population identified as homosexual then 47% of suicide attempts would be committed by sexual minority individuals.

Uh, only 2% of the U.S. population is homosexual. So that would render the suicide attempts number to 9.4%. And "attempts"? That could be said about many people's driving who aren't part of that group.
