I think sometimes our Asian friends just don’t have a full appreciation for the danger of wild animals. I saw a Japanese tourist once try to pet a coyote in Yosemite NP. The animal was preoccupied with eating a squirrel so that gave me time to pull the guy back.
I think they get all their wild animal knowledge from cartoons.
They get their knowledge from Cartoons !
That’s All Folks!
You see that kind of thing at Banff National Park all the time. Signs are posted in five or six languages, but are ignored. Unfortunately, of the animals that are put down, most are killed because they get accustomed to, and become a danger to people not through their actions rather, the actions of the people not heeding the warnings.
...That and movies. I remember the scene in Jurassic Park where the girl pets the brontosaur after being informed by the "scientist" that you don't need to be afraid, that dinosuar is an herbivore. If one tries to pet a river hippo, an herbivore, one will quickly discover herbivore is not an indian word for "peaceful grazing animal".
Yep. We have had many Japanese homestay students. They have no idea what “wild” really is. In urban Japan, they see some black birds, and that is about it. Not even any squirrels.
The visitors from India tend to be a bit more cautious around wild animals.
