to take some hide from the principal on this, rather than simple embarrassment.

I agree. When government functionaries flop their big hairy toe over the line it should be their **personal** homes, savings, and pensions that get threatened. These government bullies would rein it in on many of their abuses if this was the case.

I guess it's harder to "prove damages" when it's a Conservative, Constitution believing individual's actual civil rights are infringed upon.

When non-existent "civil rights" are "denied" to a person who hates the existence of the Constitution, it's money city....

, but I do recognize that there can be reasonable restrictions in a school.

It is for this reason that government should get out of the education business. Why?

In **all** schools speech, press, assembly, and expression of religion must be suppressed and directed by the school. It must be just to maintain order and safety.

So....When government schools suppress speech, press, assembly, and expression of religion they are trampling First Amendment Rights. The children in these schools risk learning to be comfortable with government toadies crushing their First Amendment and human rights.

It is possible to begin the process of privatizing the delivery of K-12 schooling in this nation. Vouchers, tax credits, charters, dame schools, on-line schooling, and homeschooling can begin to build the private infrastructure. In an ideal world there would be complete separation of school and state.

There were definitely damages here ,, the kid was arrested because of what was printed on his shirt .. not that the shirt was too skimpy or revealing ,, the shirt was fine , the principal thought the message “NRA - Defend your Rights” was offensive when it clearly is not offensive and is certainly protected 1st amendment speech.

Now this kid will forever have to answer YES to any college admissions form or any job application “Have you ever been arrested?” They never ask were you convicted or were the charges dropped , only if you were arrested and your application goes immediately into the trash. That is worth the $500,000.00 he was seeking.

This gives me the idea of a Bill of Rights t-shirt. Instead of the actual rights, give a vernacular version of them, which would definitely upset the “disturbed classes”.

1) I can worship God, speak my mind, print what I say, and hang out with people I want to. And you can’t stop me.

2) Guns are legal and I can buy and own them. I can use them to defend myself, my family, my property and my nation and countrymen against enemies, foreign and domestic.

3) Soldiers can’t move into my house unless I let them, or they pay me.

4) Don’t search me or my stuff without a warrant. This means you, National Security Agency, and you, FBI, and you, all other government employees.

5) Only my peers can charge me with a crime, convict me of a crime, try me once for a given offense, and I can’t be forced to testify against myself. Even if the government really hates me.

etc.
