U.S. soldiers kill senior Islamic State commander in Syria raid, capture wife

U.S. commandos mounted a rare raid into eastern Syria overnight, killing a senior Islamic State commander in a firefight, capturing his wife and rescuing a Yazidi woman held as a slave, the Pentagon said Saturday.

Defense Secretary Ash Carter announced the raid, identifying the militant as Abu Sayyaf. He said no U.S. forces were killed or injured in the operation.

A U.S.-led coalition has been striking Islamic State militants in Syria since last year, but this is only the second time troops have carried out a ground raid. A previous operation was aimed at rescuing Americans held hostage by the group.

Syrian state media earlier reported that Syrian government forces killed at least 40 IS fighters, including a senior commander in charge of oil fields, in an attack Saturday on the country's largest oil field - held by IS.

It identified the commander as Abu al-Teem al-Saudi. The name indicates he was a Saudi citizen.

With no real comittment or a plan to defeat terrorists from Zer0, this raid is a show piece. A risky one for Ametican service mens’ lives.

It is an act of war.

Obama pretty much thinks he can do as he pleases.

Lord of the flies and maggots.

We’ve got Americans unjustly held in prisons in Iran too. I sort of doubt we’ll be doing any raids over there.

I put my money on SEALs.

Well this is what the special forces are for. Now ISIS commanders will be wondering if they are slated to be next for sudden death by American special forces.

The SEALs are considered the poor man’s Special Forces.

Delta and the Green Berets (aka Army Special Forces) are considered the top dogs.

Although the Navy SEALs get all the Hollywood treatment.

Perhaps because BUDs is in San Diego, and not far from Hollywood?

Although these days it seems the military likes to hire private companies like Blackwater.

Check out this Blackwater Sniper video in Iraq. Marines had dropped some JDAM and you hear the guy mentions it’s like a “Turkey Shoot”

Syrian state media earlier reported that Syrian government forces killed at least 40 IS fighters…

Are we helping the Syrian government or trying to overthrow it? Are we funding the J.V. to further that cause or not? What does John McCainiac say? What about those weapons of mass destruction Syria was using on its citizens? Whatever happened to those nasty varsity killers, the Khorasan?

Sheesh, let's see…where's my scorecard…

The clarity of American policy BUMP!

Sure.

I just don’t see this as a Green Beret mission. I’m sure they fully engaged training locals to fight ISIS.
