1960 I was bad in school, really bad. I was 13 years old. For the next week all my class assignments and homework were delivered to the principal and I completed them along with my other miscreants. We sat in her office and were not allowed to speak to anyone with the exception of her if it concerned our work assignments. Our work was then sent back to our teachers and graded. We had a great motive to do well as if we did not, we would spend another week in the principals office.
At that time in my life I hated that woman with a visceral passion. At this time in my life I know she did me a great favor and service. She did not even call my parents I think, that was the sword she held over our heads.
