Hawaii’s $205M ObamaCare system on life support, critics fear ‘complete waste’

HONOLULU – Federal taxpayers dumped more than $205 million into Hawaii's ObamaCare insurance exchange, but after a steady downward spiral the once-highly praised Hawaii Health Connector is on life support.

The federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has already restricted grant funds to the Hawaii Health Connector, after telling officials in March it was out of compliance with the Affordable Care Act because of fiscal instability and ongoing IT issues.

With state lawmakers also blocking additional funds, the system is struggling to stay afloat. The governor's office said it is doing what it can to salvage the situation, including approving $30 million to temporarily transition the local portal to the federal exchange, HealthCare.gov -- where residents could continue to enroll over the next year while problems with the local site are addressed.

I think I may have found the problem. Whey would it take $30 million "to temporarily transition the local portal to the federal exchange"? It takes about 2 minutes on Godaddy.com to redirect a domain address to a different website.

It doesn’t matter.

For this brief period in history (basically the last several decades), American progressives and statists have found that they can run any social-engineering scheme they want, using Federal Reserve fiat, printed money, monetized government debt and fake interest rates - all washed through a crony-capitalist financial system.

So Obamacare can continue to be funded for a while. How long can this continue? I have no idea.

Follow the money. See who got the contract, check their connections, review the budget against similar projects.

I always enjoy reading about how the Democrats “waste” dollars provided by American Taxpayers.

They don’t waste one thin dime of it.

They use all of it to pay themselves, their families, their friends and the Democrat Party.

They want you to believe that they “waste” money. Then, when they get caught, they just shrug their shoulders and say, “Aw shucks....we didn’t know any better”.

They are just dirty thieves.

How long can this continue? I have no idea.

Looking at the USSR and Cuba, the over/under on Communism would appear to be around 70 years.

In other words, we ain't going back to Reaganomics in my lifetime.

Did they really spend $205 MILLION on a website? How many million people in Hawaii? If they had divided the money up evenly and gave every man, woman and child in Hawaii their share and invested it, they would have free eternal healthcare living off the interest! What am I missing?

The federal govt WANTS the state level sites to fail. It makes it a real single payer system, just like he said he supported in the video that the LSM ignored....

What am I missing?

205m / 1.5m = $136.00 each

I guarantee you that 4/5 of that money went into well-connected hands and no goods were provided or work was done to earn it

No one can argue about that. I sort of think that was the plan all along, anyway. One giant boondoggle and it was done RIGHT IN FRONT OF OUR EYES.

I am sure that providing ‘health care’ was NOT the primary concern and never will be, even IF the BS legislation survives.

According to the 2010 Census, the total population of Hawaii is 1,419,561. But it is much worse than that.

According to the article, that $205 million resulted in enrollment of 8,500 people. That comes out to approximately $24,000 per person. That does not include whatever subsidized premiums that the enrollees paid out of pocket for their Obamacare insurance.
