TALLAHASSEE (AP)- Gov. Rick Scott is asking agency heads to list only their critical needs as the Legislature prepares to hold a special session over the state budget.

Scott sent the letter to agency heads Thursday and told them to prepare in case the budget impasse results in state government shutting down July 1.

The Legislature is returning to Tallahassee June 1 after leaving its regular session without a budget agreement.

Isn’t this Obama’s tactics? Cut off federal monies if you don’t give O his way.

http://www.tampabay.com/news/politics/stateroundup/gov-rick-scott-orders-lists-of-critical-state-needs-hints-at-possible/2229697

(excerpt)

In letters to agencies, Scott laid the blame for a potential shutdown on the Senate, which has insisted on a modified Medicaid expansion and state support to hospitals facing the loss of federal money to care for the poor as pre-conditions to budget talks. Scott on Thursday called both health care issues “controversial and divisive.”

“It is possible that Florida Senate President Andy Gardiner and the Florida Senate will not agree to any budget without the specific expansion of Medicaid (at a cost to state taxpayers of $5 billion over 10 years),” Scott wrote. “Therefore, we are requesting your agency prepare a list of critical state services our citizens cannot lose in the event Florida is forced into a government shutdown on July 1st.”

The Fl. House is opposed to it. But I believe the fat cat RINOs in the FL Senate love Obama so much, they’ll do anything for him. This can’t be good for the members of the FL House. If they support the expansion, they’ll be gone. So the republicans in the FL Senate are playing the part of the democrats.

Learn to live without federal fish hook money.

It’s time to cut them loose.

Is it too much to ask for an honest, frugal, transparent, ethical, efficient, and most of all responsive to the people government?

Take note that government shutdowns never affect our political elites and public servants and those in government. They get time off and back pay too. But it does affect the citizenry that government elites are claiming to serve.

I don’t agree. This is monies taken from FLORIDA taxpayers when the i.r.s. extorts it. It has to come back or it’s no different than 230 years ago with the king of england.

If both chambers are opposed then they aren't divided, are they?

They knew it was going away, to be replaced by Obamacare. They knew that a few years ago.

I know, unlike most of the subdued, mindless masses, this is not the ‘horror’ they portend; and you are exactly correct, end it NOW.

Am I supposed to feel dread that the citizens of all 50 States are to assist in ‘aiding’ the residents of the State of Florida (whereas FL would, in essence, be getting their taxpayers $$ back from big FED govt)?? What other ‘charity’ should the GUN of govt allow the hand of govt to pick me/our pockets?

Damn, how I detest the word games played that have covered the eyes of most...

Nope. See post 8 for clarification.

This is the funding he's suing the Feds over? Then it was always part of Obamacare and Florida has known it's going away unless they sign up for the Medicaid expansion.

Government mismanagement again.

The people in government spend like arrogant drunken lottery winners.

Save on taxes. Spend as little as possible. Choke the monster.

i agree 100% federal taxes sap the state of potential tax money... but reducing federal taxes is a different issue.

removing the blackmail should be task #1

once weened, standing up to federal extortion would have lesser consequences (as they would have less to threaten us with)
