The engine & cars up front tend to slow down first and cars in the back accordion into them.
It’s called “telescoping” and resulted in hideous casualties back when passenger cars were wooden & rickety.
Even now, the locomotive in this crash was much heavier than the cars it drew behind it. It didn’t `capsize’ & remained upright & mostly intact. AFAIK most of the deaths happened in the car right behind it.
Anyway, Amtrak put a faggie at the throttle. What could go wrong?
