Wow, Jeb Bush Is Awful (Liberal media bailing on Jeb?)
NY Times ^ | 5/14/15 | Gail Collins

Let’s discuss Jeb Bush’s terrible week.

I’m really troubled by his awful performances, and I’m generally a person who takes bad news about politicians pretty well. For instance, a friend just sent me a story about the Texas agriculture commissioner’s vow to bring deep-fried foods back to school cafeterias. (“It’s not about French fries; it’s about freedom.”) I would classify this as interesting, yet somehow not a shocking surprise.

But today we’re talking about Jeb Bush. As a presidential hopeful, Bush’s most attractive feature was an aura of competence. Extremely boring competence, perhaps. Still, an apparent ability to get through the day without demonstrating truly scary ineptitude.

-snip-

If the version of Jeb Bush we’ve been seeing lately is the one we’re going to be stuck with, then one of the other Republican contenders is going to win.

“I find it absolutely laughable that Leftists are acting all concerned about Bush’s political abilities. How stupid do they think we are?”

Yeah, they all come from the Brer’ Rabbit School of Reporting. The briar patch is waiting.

That question Jeb misunderstood? HUH?? The puppetmasters were trying to sell us Jeb as the smart one.

If the nomination can be bought for Jeb, we are beyond hope as a nation.

Jeb is too stupid to realize that Liberals (Meaning the Media) would ask him about the gulf war.

That he didn't already have an answer prepared makes him too stupid to be President. We've already got a stupid one, we are looking to upgrade.

Yeah, that’s what I thought.

Leftists hated both Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon. To me Nixon’s domestic programs were an extension of Johnson’s liberal program. The Left hates people for reasons inscrutable to the sane.

I know that Nixon was viewed as a Leftist to a certain degree.

You know, I find myself in a strange quandry with Nixon.

Do I agree with his Leftist moves? No. I don’t back those types of government policies.

At the same time, this man has been vilified by the public to the point that it’s way over the top IMO.

After Clinton and now Obama, it’s just wrong to keep acting as if he was the great Satan of presidents.

Nixon may have been a lot of things, but he wasn’t a traitor to our nation, and frankly, I think both Clinton and Obama have committed acts of treason.

Well there’s a very big difference between Leftism and Liberalism. LBJ was a gold plated American liberal, and Leftists hated him. They hated him because Johnson was an anti-Communist, as was Nixon.

Nixon wasn’t a Leftist in any conceivable sense of the term. But as President he did sign a whole load of liberal domestic legislation. He was a big government Republican, a good deal closer to Rockefeller’s Republican liberalism than to Goldwater’s Republican conservatism. Yet Goldwater was the first prominent Republican to endorse Nixon in 1968.

As far as Watergate, I don’t think Nixon did anything that Lyndon Johnson hadn’t done to an even bigger degree. And after reading Colodny and Gettlin’s ‘Silent Coup’ I don’t think Nixon even knew about the break-in beforehand, much less did he order it. That entire burglary was John Dean’s doing and he he managed to pin the blame on Nixon and save his own hide at the same time.

I occasionally hear Hannity using Nixon’s name in a fashion as if he was evil. Well Hannity was probably 5 years old when Watergate happened, and he’s no smarter now than when he was riding his Big Wheel.

I don’t disagree with your take on things. I generally use Leftist and Liberal interchangeably today. That can get me in trouble if we’re talking the pre McGovern years.

I do agree that neither Johnson or Nixon were pro Communist, so you have a valid point there.

With the onset of McGovern, I do think the die was cast and the two words began to mean pretty much the same thing.

The McGovern era introduced a vile form of the Democrat party that has gone downhill since that day. To one degree or another, they were all people who supported communism in the U. S.

One might argue that Carter wasn’t a Commie lover, but his inclination to fawn over the worlds leading Communists call that into question. I think he was very much pro Communist.

As for Hannity, I agree that his elevator doesn’t go all the way to the top floor.

Carter’s problem was that he suffered from a trait all too common among liberals, and that is the lack of ability to recognize the dangerous and evil. It is a type of naivete.

In the 60s liberals routinely acted this way in regard to violent criminals and this was largely why by the end the decade the public began to hate them, and movies like Death Wish and Dirty Harry became popular.

In Carter’s case he had no idea how to deal with ruthless and tough characters like Brezhnev.

I agree with your comments there. That’s exactly right.

The recall of Rose Bird (Chief Justice of the California Supreme Court) and two other judges sitting on that court sure looked like a great answer to Eastwood’s movie dynamic.

Loved it.

I agree with regard to Carter too. Brezhnev and Carter’s dealing with the Shah too. He was woefully lacking in common sense. Still is.
