The speed at which they moved to politicize this reminds me of the Shakespeare line “Methinks the lady doth protest too much”
A gay engineer promoted above his competence causes a major screw-up and they rush to his defense.

You may be right; perhaps they know something we don’t know about the background of the engineer.

Good for Mark ... this is beyond the pale.
Completely shameful. So ... where's Mitch & The Weeper of the House?
To: Michael van der Galien
What do they need, an extra engineer on board to drive the train properly while the other guy is doing something immoral? What do we need here, double staffing with one irresponsible Democrat along with a responsible atheist to keep things going?

Or they could use the actual automated speed control systems used for trains in other countries. Which AMTRAK, despite at the time having more than enough money to buy it, decided not to.

The speed at which they moved to politicize this... was faster than the train was going (100+MPH) when it tried to make the curve. Laws of Physics... clearly the GOP's fault and attempt to hurt to poor!

It's all going to all boil down to ANOTHER HR failure.
The government has put tooooooo much pressure and regulation on how companies hire so that we NOW have people in positions for which they are TOTALLY unfit.
Where public safety is concerned none but the MOST rigid standards OUGHT to be in place, and they are NOT.

Lack of infrastructure has nothing to do with a train going 106 miles per hour. Odd, the engineer doesn’t remember anything. Hmmmmm.....
I wonder how long before the truth comes out?

History: American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA)
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Recovery Act) was signed into law by President Obama on February 17, 2009. It serves an unprecedented effort to jumpstart our economy, create or save millions of jobs, and put a down payment on addressing long-neglected challenges so our country can thrive in the 21st century. The Act is an extraordinary response to a crisis unlike any since the Great Depression, and includes measures to modernize our nation's infrastructure, enhance energy independence, expand educational opportunities, preserve and improve affordable health care, provide tax relief and protect those in greatest need. Vision for High-Speed Rail
Additionally, ARRA funding is being used to help achieve President Obama's vision for developing high-speed intercity passenger rail in America. Through ARRA, Congress made $8 billion available to help transform Americas transportation system through the creation of a national network of high-speed rail corridors.
Then there is Obama's (Solyndra Scandal)
(The Big Fail - Top 5 Failed Obama Policies)
Obama had the money and the votes to fix our Amtrak infrastructure...but lamented the 'shovel ready jobs....' weren't....did he assume those SRjobs were just digging ditches? Cash For Clunkers anyone????

You can’t be surprised when dems politicize disasters - it’s just what they do. I recall that when the I-35 bridge over the Mississippi in Minneapolis collapsed some years back, dropping half or dozen folks to their deaths in the water below, the last vehicle had not even splashed when the Democat Farmer Labor party (that’s what dems call themselves in Minnesota) started blaming Republicans for failing to provide enough funding to maintain bridges.

they could use the actual automated speed control systems used for trains in other countries. Already used on parts of the same line, but not yet in all locations.

A gay engineer promoted above his competence causes a major screw-up and they rush to his defense. Is there documentation that the engineer is homosexual? This is the first reference to that possibility I've heard.
