Following a Monday court hearing, a Kentucky couple living what they call a “simple, back-to-basics life” in a rural, off-the-grid shack has lost custody, at least temporarily, of their 10 children. Joe and Nicole Naugler — who are expecting an 11th child in October — will remain under investigation by the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS), while their kids, ranging in age from 3 months to 15 years old, will stay in the agency’s custody.

Social workers in Kentucky apparently think raising your kids without Nintendo, HBO or Facebook is some form of child abuse.

Sounds like they don’t pay taxes so the regime is taking the children away to reeducation camp.

Charles Ingalls would have had a hard time under todays regime.

Lifestyle choices that the nannystate disapproves of are not allowed.

People lived “off grid” for all of human existence, save a small fraction of humanity for the last hundred years.

I suspect that they object to the large family as well.

“For the Chilrun” has been a very effective wedge to undermine the Constitution and bill of rights for a hundred years.

Actually, they live in a shed. It’s more than just “off the grid”.
And the parents are crazy. The dad threatened someone while the dad was stealing water from them.

They should claim they are part of the occupy movement, and they are protesting big electric, big gas, big sewer...

Normally I would be outraged over this but I think they are a little too off the grid for children. Apparently there’s a gofundme account that has raised over $40,000 so they could get a cabin or a nice manufactured home put on that property and get the kids back.

“... or running water, basic sanitation, education, warm dry home, etc.”

I suspect that your idea of “basic sanitation” is considerably different than mine.

An outhouse is basic sanitation.

Water to wash with is basic sanitation.

I bet that they have both of those things.

Things *not required* for basic sanitation:

running water

electricity

flush toilets

“The dad threatened someone while the dad was stealing water from them.”

This justifies kidnapping the children?

If we continue to go down this road will the US government start demanding abortions in cases like these? China did it for many years and it appears that the marxists in this country want to go down the same path. I pray for this nation nearly everyday. I hope God is listening.

Ten children in the custody of the State?

Who wants to place bets on how many of these children will be raped before escaping the loving arms of the State?

Living off the grid isn’t what it used to be.

“The court’s decision came several days after authorities removed the children from their home, following an anonymous police complaint about the family’s living conditions — which allegedly include residing under a crude tarp construction, having no heat or running water, and having no septic system (which the Nauglers dispute).”

I don’t care if they’re digging latrines and boiling water on a camp stove. But residing under a crude tarp construction? I still don’t know if it’s any of the state’s business, but that’s where I start wondering if they’re insane.

“Joe and Nicole Naugler — who are expecting an 11th child in October — will remain under investigation by the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS), while their kids, ranging in age from 3 months to 15 years old, will stay in the agency’s custody.”

Here’s what’s troubling: the state should have manifest evidence of wrong-doing before it punishes people for an alternative lifestyle. It seems the police should be able to determine the truth of the complaint BEFORE acting on it.

We have seen another thread on this subject (can’t find the link, but I remember the commentary).

This isn’t as cut and dried a situation as we think; there are issues with the parents that cast doubt on their motives...

Well, they must not have had water to wash with, since the dad was accused of stealing it from the neighbors, which is what led to this in the first place.

The father’s oldest son, who was removed from his care as a small child, testified against the parents in court this week. You can see pictures of their living conditions in this article:
