yes, remember that vaguely. in retrospect, i’m still shaking my head, especially in light of what we now know about islam and the underlying muslim caliphate, the shia sunni schism, etc but, i’m trying to remember how little i knew about islam at that point. to me this would have been a minor point, relative and related to iraq’s supposed existential threat to israel.
