Who, given the opportunity, wouldn't love to redo the invasion of Iraq over and over again, declare mission accomplished right there on the flight deck of a US aircraft carrier, spend trillions of in what is perhaps the worst military blunder of all time all for everything we acquired as result, which is absolutely less than zero unless you consider empowering Iran as regional super power with the takeover of Iraq. Bush you're my dog.
Capitol Hill Blue:April 30,2015:Jeb Bush: Let illegal Immigrants Stay
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush declared Wednesday that 11 million immigrants in the country illegally should have an opportunity to stay, wading yet again into his partys contentious immigrant debate.
In tone and substance, Bush stands out among the many Republicans lining up for the GOPs next presidential primary, where conservatives who oppose an immigration overhaul often hold outsized influence. As he moves toward a presidential campaign, the brother and son of former presidents has not backed away from his defense of immigrants in the country illegally and a policy that would allow them to attain legal status under certain conditions
We KNOW there’s something wrong with her. Flaming hypocrisy.
For later
Freaking reporters asking dumb questions of consequence. I’m no.jeb fan but the answer is that its history and say why didn’t you speak up.
Well she's right, but not for the reasons she thinks. The Invasion of Iraq was a very sensible thing to do given the information we had at the time, but Yeah, there is something wrong with Jeb Bush. He is politically tone deaf, as was his father.
Jeb should help his idiot older brother with the puppy and clown paintings, and spare our homeland further damage at the hands of his awful family.
I find Laura Ingraham troubling. This is her big point now, anti Iraq war?
Please, Please Mexico - take the Bush family off our hands. Every last one of them.
Its taken us a while to realize it but evidently WWI was a bad idea
I concluded that after reading Ernest Hemingway
So now that that has been established to everyone’s satisfaction who gives a damn?
You sound like what passes as a thoughtful liberal
The big mistake was not invading Iraq and toppling Sadam Hussein but it was then letting the DOS set up an Islamic Republic. We should have followed the MacArthur example in Japan, put someone in charge to set up a constitutional republic with a disestablishment clause.
But I suppose I see Jeb’s logic. After all, Obama got elected by good margins, running as an openly post-American / anti-American candidate. So Jeb’s raised middle finger to regular patriotic Americans may make sense.
Which would have worked if you also somehow substituted homogeneous and orderly Japanese folks for the entire population of tribally and religiously fractured chaotic Arabs.
No argument. And we should have treated the Bathe party in the same manner we did the former Nazis when we set up the new government in Germany.
If you committed war crimes, you would be prosecuted, but if you didn't, and continued doing your job and kept your nose clean, you would be left alone.
I still say throwing anyone who was a member of the Bathe party out of government, and disbanding the Iraqi army were just bone headed stupid mistakes.
We should have done it exactly as it was done after World War II. Those guys knew what they were doing. Bremer/Bush didn't. We paid for it in blood and treasure, and then Odumbo threw it away.
If we had implemented a benevolent dictatorship supported by the existing Iraqi armed forces transformed over time by introduction of Shiite and Kurdish troops.
If we had kept the dictatorship in place until the Iraqis were capable of running a proper democracy.
If we were able to get away with this without having the rest of the world boycott us or impose meaningful economic sanctions...
then and only then would it have made sense to go to war with Saddam.
Even if Saddam had weapons of mass destruction, there was no need to go to war. A few well-placed missiles and spies deployed over time would have prevented them from using whatever they had against us.
I must have had some pretty secret information, because I always knew it would be a disaster.
I a little bit crazy but I still support the initial decisions in Afghanistan and Iraq. Hell, I support the original intent in Vietnam.
My opinion. Bush invaded. For good cause. The problem is he invaded on political principals. He help back the military for PC reasons. If our military was unleashed no force on earth could stop us. The lessons of WW2 are ignored. Let soldiers do what they do and unleash the bombers. We don’t invade to build nations or punish “evil-doers.” We unleash the military to destroy the enemy. If they don’t surrender we keep bombing until they do.
When Bush let the lawyers decide tactics the war was lost.
Good post.
