Majority leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky said Kennedy was someone who could separate the personal from the political and who stayed true to his word.

Most certainly he did -- as in the 1980s, when he secretly contacted the Soviets and offered to work with them against President Reagan.

A true patriot indeed.

McConnell makes a really good point, although I don’t think he intended to. The Kennedy think with Andropov over Reagan is a good example.

The Dem take on politics is the same on the Mafia’s take on “business”. It’s just politics/business. It’s NOT personal to them.

So Kennedy could work with the Soviets on getting rid of Reagan in the same way Michael Corleone could have Fredo killed. Just business, right, nothing personal about it.

One of the most chillingly cold passages I’ve read about how the Dems view politics comes from Chris Mathews book on Tip O’Neill, where he talks about how O’Neill would spend the day ripping Reagan apart in the House, then clock out at 5, go up to the White House, have drinks and trade Irish stories with Reagan on the Truman Balcony.

We can actually learn a lot from that sort of mentality. We NEED to learn how to counteract it.
