This really isn't a throwback to the seventh century, because Islam has never changed.

Thank you for posting these links. The last link you posted was of particular interest to me, although not for the Islamic reasons of this thread.

As I scrolled down that page I came across an extended essay about ‘indentured servants’ who came to this country in the 1700’s. Why was this profound read to me?

Last year I did my family tree only to uncover that a several times great grandfather came here initially as an indentured servant from Bentley, England. Now, now I have a better understanding regarding his passage and what it meant for him to either have been sold or as is often he sold himself to a captain to gain passage to the new world, what that really meant at the time.
